PERMiT: Pipeline Erosion Risk Mitigation Toolbox
-
Calculate Erosion Rates
PERMiT allows the user to calculate erosion rates of pipelines for the selected erosion model. There are different piping components which can be entered. The user can find out erosion rates for numerous operational scenarios and working conditions. In addition, the user has an option of calculating the results according to the inbuilt standard piping schedules and sizes used in the Oil & Gas industry.
-
Plot Operating Envelopes and Graphs
PERMiT allows the user to generate operating envelope curves and plot sensitivity graphs using different erosion models. These graphs can then be superimposed for easy comparison and analysis.
-
Compare and Validate with Lab/Field Data
PERMiT has an inbuilt compilation of published Lab and field data. The model results obtained can be compared with this archive data to help the engineers assess erosion risk. The database can be expanded to include an organizations lab/field data enabling decision making using both data and models. Knowledge sharing across the organizations is now a breeze. Data Silos can be avoided by migrating pockets of information into PERMiT and sharing it across the global organization.
Reduce erosion risk while optimizing production
PERMiT is a unique tool designed to predict and mitigate erosion risk. It helps with design and operation of oil and gas pipelines within acceptable erosion limits. PERMiT assists in predicting and evaluating the erosion rates for various pipeline components that are prone to erosion. Designers can size pipelines and recommend operating envelopes to stay within the erosion limits. Field operators can optimize production rates to stay within erosion limits when production scenarios change. It ensures safe and reliable operation of pipelines.
PERMiT compares data across six different erosion models while considering diverse operating conditions for various piping components. The intuitive interface simplifies entry of numerical inputs and streamlines the analysis process. Users can specify ranges for various parameters such as production rates, pipe sizes, fluid properties etc. and instantly obtain plots and tables allowing for quick analysis of a large set of scenarios.
A database containing published data is included for comparison of model predictions with field or lab data. Further, the database can be expanded to include an organizations proprietary lab and field data for an enterprise wide sharing of knowledge within an organization. This combination of database with erosion prediction using six industrially accepted erosion models provides a very powerful framework for managing erosion risks.
Face the Erosion Risk
Solids particle erosion is an important pipeline integrity concern during design and operation of oil and gas pipelines. In spite of the sand control/management techniques implemented down-hole, sand often may find its way into the piping components of onshore, offshore, and subsea facilities causing erosion/wear and subsequent pipeline integrity issues. Suitable design of the piping components with capability to monitor wear at hotspots could be made if the erosive impact of sand could be quantified by predictive methods. Production rates can also be optimized to mitigate erosion risk is the erosion rates can be quantified. Several models have been developed to predict erosion rates. These models have been codified for ease of use by individuals but never in a comprehensive, easy to use tool with design engineers and operators in mind.
Take Control of the Erosion Risk
PERMiT provides a platform for the engineers to predict the erosion rates for various production scenarios and pipeline components. It helps optimize design and operational conditions in a streamlined manner where in pipe sizes, flow rates, fluid properties etc. could all be specified as a range and analyzed. Users can select from 6 different erosion models and compare & contrast the predictions from these models. Published data has been included in the database and field data can also be added into the database for quick reference and comparison of models with field data.
